Moving Shopify bundles from another app: what you can carry over and what you have to rebuild

When an app builds a bundle with Shopify's native components, Shopify records that app as the owner of the bundle product. Any other app with permission to read products can see the bundle in full: which components, how many of each, at what price. But only the owner can change it. When a second app tries, Shopify refuses with an ownership error. Ownership is per product, so one product cannot be shared between two bundle apps.

• Native bundles from another app: readable in full, not editable.
• The fix is to copy, not to overwrite.
• Do not try to have two bundle apps manage the same product.

Not every bundle app uses Shopify's native components. Some keep the bundle definition in their own private storage, which no other app can read. Those bundles are invisible to anything except the app that made them. If you are moving from an app like that, plan to rebuild those bundles by hand, and note their contents and prices before you start.

In our test, the price of a native bundle product moved by itself to the sum of its components: a bundle set at 22.00 showed 25.50 once the components were attached. If you copy a bundle, check that the copy carries the price customers actually pay today, not the number you remember typing in.

• Copy each bundle into a new draft product with the same components, quantities, text, photos and price. Leave the original alone.
• Check each copy on the storefront: add it to the cart, compare the total with the original.
• Publish the copies and unpublish the originals.
• Redirect the old product addresses to the new ones, so links and search results still land on a bundle.
• Only then remove the old app.

We have not tested what each bundle app does to its own bundles when it is uninstalled. Ask the app you are leaving, and remove it last.

Bundle Ledger has a "Move from another app" screen. It finds products with native components from any app, shows what it found, and copies the bundle you pick into a new draft with the same contents, text, photos and price, so what the customer pays does not change. The original is never modified, and the bundle builder will not write over components another app owns. Bundles that another app keeps in its private storage do not show up, and the screen says so instead of pretending there is nothing to move.
